SATURDAY’S WALK 14TH DEC - CHILHAM.
Prompt 10 am start. 6.25 Miles. Walk leader - Stevie.
Meet at Taylor’s Hill Car Park, Chilham. CT4 8DD, (TR066536).
Saturday’s walk is a walk of two halves, valley out and downs back – and scenic all the way! We set out through the village centre and pass by the lovely old mill, before taking paths along the Stour Valley to Shalmsford Street. Just a little further on we cross the river at a pretty weir just next to the A28. Crossing the road, we leave the flat paths, and climb into the downs to pick up a very lovely section of the North Downs Way, which takes us through Mansfield’s Fruit Farm and across to Old Wives Lees, before descending again to Chilham.
There are a couple of gentle/moderate climbs and one steepish descent in this section, but nothing difficult. On the pre-walk, the ground was fairly wet on top, so a bit slippery, with one ploughed field, plus there was some work going on in the fruit farm and the tractors have really ploughed up the ground – fortunately it’s only for a hundred yards or so!
6.25 miles and only a couple of stiles. Dogs on a short lead welcome. One short break which we will take a little after the half way mark – no shelter but a lovely view!
Pubs and tea room in the village for those wishing to have a drink following the walk.
WALK GRADE – LEISURELY/ MODERATE (see walk programme below for Walk Grade info).
